Upcoming cheese tastings at both Lucy’s Whey locations!

Allison Hooper of Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery will visit Lucy’s Whey in East Hampton to share her delicious cheeses and sign books. Next Thursday, July 1st from 3-5 PM, please join Allison Hooper, President of Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery at Lucy’s Whey in East Hampton.  Allison will discuss her book, In a Cheesemaker’s Kitchen, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the beginning of the American artisanal cheese movement and some really fantastic recipes.

VBCC’s Cheeses have won numerous awards. Next week, their Bijou cheese will be lauded as a Silver Finalist at NASFT’s sofi Awards at the Fancy Food Show!

This Saturday, June 26th, stop by Lucy’s Whey in Chelsea Market, from 12-3 PM to sample VBCC’s lucious goat cheeses: Coupole, Bijou, Bonne Bouche as well as their Cultured Butter with sea salt crystals. Corinne from VBCC will also be serving up their newest cheese: Cremont – a double cream made with goats milk and cow’s cream.

We are also very excited to participate in the UnFancy Food Show at the Bell House in Brooklyn.  We’ll be sharing samples of Prairie Breeze Cheddar from Milton Creamery in Iowa. Prairie Breeze Cheddar is made by Mennonite cheesemakers with rBST-free milk from hand-milked, seasonally-grazed cows and vegetarian rennet. It’s delicious! A sweet, creamy more continental expression of Cheddar…Prairie Breeze is full flavored, nutty and full of crunchy tyrosine crystals.

Part of the pleasure of sourcing from American artisan producers is getting to know the people behind the products.  According to Milton Creamery, “its all about family and trust.” Rufus Musser, the cheesemaker at Milton Creamery visited us this past February, and he (and his cheese) were introduced to us by a mutual friend, Herb Eckhouse of La Quercia Artisan Cured Meats. This Sunday we’re sharing at table with our friend Herb and we’ll be serving up sandwiches on Sullivan Street Bakery’s Pizza Bianca with Prairie Breeze Cheddar and La Quercia’s Speck.

Our First radio appearance! This past Monday Amy and Lucy sat down with Nicole Taylor on her show Hot Grease at the Heritage Radio Network. It was really fun to be on the radio with Nicole and we talked good cheese, and we dropped our ‘Hot Five’ most haves for a cheese party this summer!
